[Welcome a new face to Prismatica! He looks a little timid, but he straightens up and smiles before launching into things.]

Hello! I'm Dazai Osamu, famous author and fashion icon... well, back home! To be honest, I just got here, and I don't know many people. So... an acquaintance of mine said I should make an effort to meet people... even if it's kind of scary...

Anyway, writing is a great icebreaker, right? I won't judge any amateur efforts, but please check the attached for details! And don't forget me, even if you don't participate!

[Attached is a flier with details on the... well, it's marked nsfw miraculously and you should be glad because emblazoned across the top of it are the words DICK LIT in all caps and brilliant red. The text is as follows:]

It is. It's a heavy piece, not very good for light reading, I'll warn you now...

Given everything I know about the Dazai-san in my world, I kind of guessed that.

[personal profile] tigerpoet 2020-01-27 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
That's how it is with semi-autobiographical work, sometimes.

[personal profile] moonlightalter 2020-01-27 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm, I can see why.

I can't think of a single author who I could say had a happy life.

[personal profile] moonlightalter 2020-01-27 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Not even Kajii-san?

[That man is a fucking weirdo but he at least seems happy.]

Kajii Motojirou? Well, he died at a younger age than I did, and suffered from tuberculosis since childhood... He handled it better than some people do, at least?
moonlightalter: (64)

[personal profile] moonlightalter 2020-01-27 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
...just how many people died of tuberculosis?

[personal profile] tigerpoet 2020-01-27 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
At the time, before there was an effective treatment for it? About two in every thousand.

[That might not sound like a lot until you think of how many people that was, over how many decades.]
moonlightalter: (13)

[personal profile] moonlightalter 2020-01-27 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
[No he's thinking about just how many that is, and how young they died too.]

I was more thinking about among your writer-friends, but that's still a lot anyways.

[modern health care is amazing and if atsushi ever meets an anti-vaxxer they will have Words]

Of the ones who've been summoned to our library... ten, I think.

[personal profile] moonlightalter 2020-01-27 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
That's way more than 2 in a thousand!

Authors are disproportionately likely to have been heavily sick. We didn't get real jobs, after all, and we tend toward writing about our own pain.

[personal profile] moonlightalter 2020-01-27 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, really? But weren't you a teacher?

[He kind of assumed writers were teachers or whatever too.]
tigerpoet: outer neutral (⊙ good kid)

[personal profile] tigerpoet 2020-01-27 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I was, but I'm the exception rather than the rule. It makes it difficult to consider myself on the same level as people like Dazai or Kyouka, sometimes.

[He was a teacher who also wrote. They were writers.]
moonlightalter: (48)

[personal profile] moonlightalter 2020-01-27 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Why would that put you on a different level than them. If you write something, then you're a writer. It doesn't matter how much or how little you write.

Sort of like how it doesn't matter if you kill just one person or a hundred, you're still a murderer.

[The point was probably better made without that analogy, but shhh.]
tigerpoet: outer neutral (⊙ just a man and his will to survive)

[personal profile] tigerpoet 2020-01-27 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
...that worked better before you added the analogy...

[Killing is complicated??]
moonlightalter: (65)

[personal profile] moonlightalter 2020-01-27 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Look, the point is that you're still a writer.
tigerpoet: outer smile (⊙ some of us will dream it forever)

Yes, I know. Thank you for the support.

[personal profile] moonlightalter 2020-01-27 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
As long as you know that.

[A pause.]

I'll write something for this too and be a writer too. But it's not going to be about dicks!
tigerpoet: outer smile (⊙ and you'll see the shape of me)

[personal profile] tigerpoet 2020-01-27 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
I appreciate it more than I could possibly express.

[Both the writing for Dazai, and it not being about dicks.]
