I was wondering...if anyone would like to play a game! After everything that's happened I thought maybe something fun would be good to take people's minds off of things.
It's called word association and you basically start off saying a word and then the other person has to think of another word they associate with it! It's really fun, and I think everyone could learn a bit more about each other playing it. Feel free to play with each other too. I. I just want everyone to enjoy themselves. So I'll start with the word: white! Now you have to think of a word that you associate with it.
But! That's not what I...really wanted to talk about. I. I also wanted to ask if anyone would be interested in learning sign language. I know we can all understand each other inherently here, which is amazing, isn't it? People can understand speech and writing but I'm not sure I've met many people who know sign language off the bat. I...think that learning a new language might be fun for some people, right?
[ Maaaybe?! He's so bad at this. Maybe this wasn't a good idea?! He doesn't even know. He's awkward so please don't rag on him too bad!! He's so not good with addressing entire networks of people and offering to teach people stuff. ]
Anyway. If you have any questions, or would even like to offer up your own language to teach or learn...please don't hesitate to speak with me! It could be like an exchange of sorts! And we could have weekly meetings, it might be fun! [ Or not. ] Thank you for taking the time to read this, I really appreciate it!! And please have fun playing this game with one another!
[ Shigeru?! He forgot to mention to keep it PG-13, whoops. Please don't be too naughty. Think of the children!!
Ooc: assume this is after the Port Sylvel disaster! ]

[Please, please blame his asshole parents for how sheltered he is, that he still doesn't know at his age.]

It's a language that isn't spoken or written but used with various hand signs. It's extremely helpful for people who are deaf or mute!

learning sign language would be awesome though! it would make things at the grill even easier for us!
but uh im kind of a shit student so idk if youd want to bother trying to teach me...

I wanted to get people's minds off of...what happened in that poor town, Sylvel. I'm sure it was hard for...people to see it, so even if you don't think you're the best we can still play! [ Shigeru just wants to take people's minds off of it, honestly. ]
Oh you're right, it would! I. I'm not the best teacher either, so I guess we have that in common. But I'm more than willing to teach someone who is willing to learn!
So don't sell yourself so short! learning sign language is different than learning other languages or even most things. I think you'll do just fine!

went there
to sylvel
it was horrible
[So Shig is doing something good here for sure.]
i hope it is cause my english scores are just
bad
but if im really interested in something i do make more of an effort and i really want to try so we can talk more!
no subject
I'm...sorry. Are you alright? If you want to talk about it, we can, I don't mind!
[ Shigeru's seen a lot of shit in his time out in the field so he's probably just gotten used to things like this. Towns and even cities torn asunder by miasma and the monsters that left it in their wake. ]
Well it's not like other languages. Most of the signs mean entire words, usually. There are letters though, but it's not like you need to sign individual letters to form words. There's also no direct grammar either. So honestly I think you'll be fine!

I wonder if Lunatia has a native sign language for us.
no subject
[ A pause as he thinks on the others words. ]
I wonder about that as well. This place has a lot of similar, but different, things from other worlds. So maybe sign language might be one of them too? I haven't been able to really find anything on it though.

[ something occurs to him after that short message, then, and he blinks before adding a follow up: ]
Maybe I can use the Amphoria Pods to remember my lessons. I’m out of practice now that I can speak.
no subject
Amphoria Pods...that's those VR gaming simulators they gave us not too long ago, right? I haven't used them for awhile but those could definitely help!
And if you want some help brushing up, I'm always willing to offer a hand too.

As for the game: feathers!

I would really like that! I think having people who can translate would make the process easier to learn. [ It would be a good way for people to see it translated in real time too. ]
Bird!
no subject
I'm sure it would, yes; you could play a game just like this to help people learn, too. Some of it is straightforward. It'd be like charades, don't you think?
Sky.
no subject
But you know Shigeru is just going to put off talking about it for however long he can, yup. ]
That's not a bad idea! I think it'll make it more engaging then just a typical school lesson, so we should definitely do it!

is it hard to learn sign language?
no subject
smores!
And it's difficult, like all other languages, but it's also...different from them, I guess? It's more about memorization than anything.
no subject
well, i wouldn't know unless i try. memorising it just means practising and studying a lot.
[Compared to... swordsmanship?]

We have a somewhat similar language on my world, but it's tactile, not visual.
no subject
[ Tactile, hm? ]
Is it something like...braille then? For people who can't see we use a board that has bumps on it and certain sequences of those bumps means words and letters.
no subject
Chirolinguistics, or speaking Hand alternatively, it is a language performed through hand contact. It communicates by stimulating the nerves in the fingers and palms.
